Pink Smoothies: Cranberry and Strawberry Shakes

I love liquid nutrition. What's easier than tossing ingredients in a blender and drinking the resulting concoction? You can even make smoothies while balancing a 28 lbs toddler on your hip! Here are 2 recipes I made in November.

Cranberry Protein Shake

Cranberries are so lovely. They are known for being tart, but I don't think they are, or at least not as much as they are believed to be. You can use almond milk instead of the water and cashews, but the cashew milk makes for a quick shake with absolutely no prep work.

Ingredients

3 frozen bananas
1 cup fresh cranberries
1/3 cup cashews
2 scoops SunWarrior protein, Vanilla
1 cup water

Directions
Blend and serve 2. This smoothie is Franklin approved!

Mother's Love Smoothie

I created this smoothie to celebrate the birth of Matt and Angela's baby, Oria. I remember being ravenously hungry after the birth of Franklin, and very thirsty too. As soon as he'd latch on, my mouth would instantly go dry and I'd ask my husband to bring me a glass of water. This smoothie is perfect for breastfeeding mothers, but it's great for pretty much anyone. It's loaded with superfoods, and tastes delicious.

Ingredients
1 cup sesame seed milk, for calcium
1 T chia seeds, for essential fatty acids
1 t lecithin, for choline
1/2 t chlorella, for minerals and clean breastmilk
1/2 T shatavari root, ground, for milk production
1 T bee pollen, for minerals
1 T honey and 1/4 t cinnamon, for sugar & spice (optional)
1-10 oz bag frozen strawberries
2 bananas

Directions
Blend and serve 1 hungry breastfeeding goddess :-)

  1. These look great, I love cranberries in smoothies! Same with me, as soon as she latched I needed like 5 cups of water!

  2. Hi

What kind of lecithin do you use? I was using sunflower raw one but hate taste I could not use it in recipes, because it change the taste of it a lot. Then I have tried from healthforce soy one and it works ok and thicken everything(sunflower did not thicken anything). I know that sunflower is healthier but I just can not taste it.

  3. Healthforce! Since you drink it right away it does not matter, it won't thicken. And 1 T per 3 cups of water as a ratio does not thicken the mixture much anyway :-)

  4. And have ever tried sunflower one? Do you like it?

  5. I've tried it; I'm not crazy about it. It's super hard to get off the spoon!

  6. I bought 4 glasses and was so sad with that taste it totally changed smoothie or dressing everything. I have read that you do not consume soy products me too, so it is lecithin from soy save?

  7. I have put sunflower lecithin in smoothies and couldn't tell it was there. Maybe try less? Yes, I'm OK with lecithin from soy; I feel that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Other than that, I only consume fermented soy like miso. Never soy milk, tofu etc.

  9. I'm the same way--don't like the sunflower lecithin, otherwise (aside from miso) avoid soy, but use the lecithin--choline is so important and it's such a useful thickener.

Love those pink smoothies, and it's definitely that cranberry time! I think the bananas help cut the tartness, but I haven't been feeling so good on bananas lately, so have been avoiding... Irish moss and some sweetener, or a cooked sweet potato, would probably work well too.
    love
